Mokena Village Board has extended expiring boundary agreement with Tinley Park

Updated: December 12, 2013 6:02AM

The Mokena Village Board has extended for 10 years an expiring boundary agreement with Tinley Park.

Village administrator John Downs said a 1994 agreement was amended in 2006 to allow Tinley Park to annex about 44 acres, now the Brookside Meadows subdivision, that Mokena originally had intended to annex.

Downs said that at the time “it was assumed” all of the unincorporated land involved in the 1994 deal would be annexed before the deal expired in 2014 but “that has not been the case.” He said the 10-year extension ensures that the few remaining properties will be annexed.

Downs said the new agreement includes a cost-sharing project for improvements to the intersection of 191st street and 80th Avenue, which the villages are working on with the Will County Highway Department.

The project will provide for two turn lanes and two through lanes in all directions. Downs said Mokena’s cost will be about $50,000.

Downs said plans call for 80th Avenue eventually to be improved from 191st Street to 183rd Street in Tinley Park.
