Members of D146 Gives recently stopped by PAWS of Tinley Park with a large donation, courtesy of the Community Consolidated School District 146 staff.
The committee each month coordinates a different donation project to benefit various community efforts.
Fifth-grade teacher Julie Harris, the teachers union president at Kruse Education Center in Orland Park, heads D146 Gives and also chose to be the chairperson for the PAWS donation project, according to a press release from the group.
“The committee comes together once a year to decide which monthly donation projects we will undertake,” she said in the press release. “I happen to choose the PAWS project because of my love for dogs, especially shelter dogs, and wanted to create awareness and help the shelters as much as possible. PAWS Tinley is a local shelter and I know they always appreciate whenever I make donations.
“By the end of the month we had so many items collected it took 15 members of our committee to deliver it to PAWS Donations included pet food, collars, leashes, toys, towels, cleaning supplies, storage supplies, etc.,” Harris said.
The D146 Gives group packed the lobby of the PAWS building with donated items from District 146 employees, the release said. The group also was given a tour of the facility and got to see the animals up for adoption.
