Orland Park restaurant, retail center get preliminary OK

Updated: February 19, 2012 8:09AM

Orland Park trustees on Monday night gave tentative approval to a new restaurant and plans for a retail center.

A village board committee recommended approval of a special-use permit for Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet, which would occupy nearly 11,000 square feet directly east of Home Depot, northwest of 159th Street and Harlem Avenue.

The restaurant would offer a variety of American, Chinese, Japanese and Mexican dishes and have seating for about 200, according to owner Jacky Chen, who also operates Hibachi Grill locations in Matteson and Forest Park.

The committee also recommended approval of a retail center at the site of a former Mobil gas station at the northwest corner of 159th Street and 94th Avenue. Plans call for two buildings totaling about 17,000 square feet, and a pet supply store and physical therapy business are among tenants considering locating there, according to the village.

Also receiving tentative approval from trustees was Savers, a for-profit thrift chain that’s planning to open a 28,000-square-foot store on the east side of 94th Avenue between 159th Street and Wheeler Drive. Savers — which has more than 280 stores in the U.S., Canada and Australia — would occupy the south end of a strip mall where Charter Fitness, Pro-Time Billiards and Space Golf are located.

Hibachi Grill, the retail center and Savers are expected to get final approval from the full board next month.

Also Monday night, the village board approved plans for a nearly 4,000-square-foot Buona Beef restaurant on 131st Street, east of LaGrange Road in Southmoor Commons. The restaurant will have a covered patio and drive-through lane.
