Man shot, killed near Southwest Side home

A man was shot and killed Monday night, little more than a block away from his Southwest Side home.
The man -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as 21-year-old Samuel Patterson -- shot in the chest about 6:40 p.m. while outside in the 6300 block of South Campbell Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien said.
Patterson, of the 6300 block of South Artesian Avenue, was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead at 8:48 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office.
Nobody is in custody early Tuesday and the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, police said.
