The auto shop at Oak Lawn Community High School is in for a $25,000 makeover, and it won’t cost taxpayers a dime.
Oak Lawn finished first in a national “Drive to Succeed” video contest sponsored by the Universal Technical Institute Foundation, based in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Views and votes for the video on a Facebook page were counted from Jan. 11 through Wednesday, and Oak Lawn beat seven other finalists, with 3,320 votes.
First place in the “Why My High School Auto Shop Needs a Makeover” is $25,000 in new shop tools and technology from UTI, Snap-On and Bridgestone/Firestone.
Wayne Township High Schools in Wayne, N.J., won $10,000 in shop tools and equipment for finishing second, and Washington High School in Fremont, Calif., will get $5,000 in tools and equipment for third place.
