Five people escaped a vehicle Sunday after a rollover wreck left them in a watery ditch on the side of the road outside Posen.
The single-car crash happened about 5:15 a.m. on Interstate 57 near mile marker 349, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Timothy Tippet said.
The vehicle rolled over in the northbound lanes and landed on the right side of the road in a watery ditch, Tippet said.
The passengers were able to escape, likely by climbing through the windows to safety — although Tippet said he couldn’t confirm how exactly they left the vehicle.
All were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries and treated.
Police did not know what caused the crash or if road conditions were a factor and could not determine if there were other cars on the road or not when the wreck occurred.
