A Hazel Crest woman was charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault and a misdemeanor after fleeing bicycle police who attempted to stop her Saturday for talking on a cell phone and making an illegal U-turn in downtown Chicago, police said.
Ashley Day, 25, of the 18400 block of Stonecreek Drive, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault while operating a motor vehicle against a police officer and one count of misdemeanor fleeing/attempting to elude police, police said. She also was issued two traffic citations.
Bicycle officers stopped Day in her 2005 Chevrolet Corvette about 2:40 p.m. for allegedly talking on her cell phone and making an illegal U-turn near East Randolph Drive and North Stetson Avenue, prosecutors and police said.
After initially stopping, Day drove off and nearly struck the officer as she fled, police said.
Cornered again by police in the 200 block of North Michigan Avenue, she allegedly tried the same maneuver on a second bicycle cop before she was arrested, prosecutors said.
No officers were seriously injured, police said.
Day was ordered held on $10,000 bond.
