One person was injured and some Metra commuters delayed after a train struck a vehicle Thursday evening in Chicago’s Morgan Park community.
Outbound Metra Rock Island Line Train No. 409, scheduled to arrive in Joliet at 5:24 p.m., was delayed for about 25 minutes after the grade-crossing accident at 111th Street, according to a Metra rider alert.
The train was not scheduled to stop at the 111th Street station, though the accident occurred near there, Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said.
Chicago police asked that it be stopped at the Midlothian station, but it was back on the move as of 5:25 p.m., she said.
The following outbound train was running about 18 minutes behind schedule.
The accident happened about 5 p.m. at 111th Street and the Main Line tracks, Reile said.
One person was taken in unknown condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, she said.
