A Michigan man whom authorities believe is responsible for the Jan. 9 robbery of the US Bank in Lansing and several other robberies and purse snatchings has been arrested in Kentucky.

Beaver B. Russell, 47, of Benton Harbor, was being sought in connection with bank robberies in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin and was also believed responsible for five purse snatchings and an armed robbery in Northwest Indiana, all since Dec. 18, according to the FBI.

It said Russell’s crime spree ended Feb. 9 after he held up two banks in Kentucky, being caught while he tried to flee the second and crashed his getaway vehicle. He’s being held at the Boone County, Ky., Jail, the FBI said.

While incarcerated, Russell was interviewed by FBI agents and admitted to robbing a total of seven banks as well as five purse snatchings in Northwest Indiana and the armed robbery of a student at Kaplan College in Hammond, according to the FBI.

Besides the Lansing bank, Russell said he held up the Fifth Third Bank branch in Munster, Ind., on Jan. 12, the FBI said.
