South Side man caught with handgun in carry-on bag at Midway Airport

A man from Chicago’s Chatham community has been charged after a handgun was found in his carry-on luggage Saturday morning at Midway Airport.
Police arrested Willie Thomas, 51, about 8:20 a.m. Saturday after a handgun was discovered inside his carry-on bag at a security checkpoint at the airport, police said.
Thomas, of the 8300 block of South Wabash Avenue, was charged with one count of felony boarding an airplane with a weapon, police said.
He was booked into the Cook County Jail on Sunday, according to the sheriff’s department’s website, but bond information was not immediately available.
