Tollway schedules I-294 lane closures

Three lanes on the southbound side of the Tri-State Tollway between Center Street and Halsted Street will be closed overnight for bridge work, according to the Illinois Toll Highway Authority.

One southbound lane will close at 7 p.m. for bridge demolition work, a second will close at 8 p.m. and a third will close at midnight. All lanes are to reopen by 5 a.m. Thursday, the tollway said.

The left side of the collector-distributor road to Halsted Street also will close, with traffic shifted to the right from 6 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday.

A 45-mph speed limit is in effect 24/7 in all construction zones, whether or not workers are present, according to the tollway. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375, according to the tollway.
