Forest Preserve trout season starts Saturday

Updated: May 5, 2012 8:08AM

Trout fishing season begins Saturday at Sag Quarry East in Lemont and two other Cook County Forest Preserve District lakes, the forest preserve district said in a news release.

Sag Quarry East is just northeast of the intersection of Route 83 and Archer Avenue. Trout fishing also begins at Axehead and Belleau lakes in Park Ridge.

The forest preserve district will close the sites to all other fishing until Saturday to stock them with 3,000 pounds of “catchable-sized rainbow trout” — fish weighing from 1/2 to 3/4 of a pound, the release said.

A valid Illinois sport fishing license with an Inland Trout Stamp is required for anglers age 16 and older, the release said, and the daily limit is five trout.

A 2012 Forest Preserve Fishing Guide — complete with maps and information on local fish species — can be found on the forest preserve district’s website at fpdcc.com or at any of county’s six nature centers.
