A man wounded in a Saturday shooting on the Far South Side has died, police said. Another man was seriously wounded in the same attack.
Two men, ages 18 and 21, were having a conversation on the sidewalk in the 11000 block of South Normal Avenue when they heard gunfire about 10:40 p.m., police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
The 18-year-old was shot in the head and initially taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he later died, Mirabelli said.
The 21-year-old ran for a neighbor’s porch once he heard the gunfire and called police, Mirabelli said. He realized he had been shot in the groin, and was also taken to Christ Hospital in serious condition.
Bullets also damaged two parked cars nearby, Mirabelli said. The men couldn’t say who fired the shots, and no one is in custody Monday night.
Area South detectives are investigating.
