Abuse and neglect allegations in death of 3-week-old

The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating allegations of abuse and neglect following the weekend death of a 3-week-old boy in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
Treshaun Caffey of the 8400 block of South Loomis Boulevard was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 7:38 p.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
DCFS is investigating allegations of abuse and neglect against the boy’s mother, according to spokesman Kendall Marlowe. DCFS has had no previous investigations involving the boy’s mother and she has no other children, Marlowe said.
Area South detectives are conducting a death investigation.
