Tinley Park may be getting a new restaurant.
Golden Corral, a national chain based in Raleigh, N.C., wants to build a standalone, 11,088-square-foot restaurant on 159th Street west of Oak Park Avenue.
The vacant two-acre site is an out lot on the south side of 159th Street, north of Menards and west of Brown’s, Tinley Park village manager Scott Niehaus said Monday. The village board will hear about the proposed development when it meets at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the village hall, 16250 S. Oak Park Ave.
The village’s plan commission, by a 4-to-1 vote, has recommended that the village board approve any special use permits and variations needed for the project. Included in the plan is a parking lot with 152 spaces.
Golden Corral has restaurants nationwide. There are 13 in Illinois and 19 in Indiana. The closest to Tinley Park are in Merrilville and Schererville in Indiana and Joliet.
According to the chain’s website, Golden Corral is “America’s No. 1 buffet and grill.” The chain started in Fayetteville, N.C., in 1973 and now has 486 restaurants, according to the website.
