ALSIP -- A woman died when a freight train struck her Friday morning as she was jogging.
An eastbound CSX train struck Jacqueline Garcia, 29, about 9:15 a.m. at a train crossing near West 123rd Street and Lombard Avenue, authorities said.
Garcia, of the 12400 block of South Tripp Avenue, was taken to Advocate Christ Medial Center in Oak Lawn, where doctors pronounced her dead at 4:24 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
While the incident remained under investigation Friday night, a review of the safety features near the crossing showed they were working properly, the Alsip Police Department said in a statement.
An autopsy for Garcia is scheduled for Saturday, the medical examiner’s office said.
