Heat wave gives kick start to summer

The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for excessive heat for the early part of the week as temperatures climb into the mid and upper 90s in the northern Illinois area.
Temperatures will climb Monday and will push the heat index to near 100 degrees during the first three days of the week, including Wednesday, the first ofificial day of summer.
Temperatures on Monday are expected tp hit 96 degrees. That would fall short of the hottest day on record for the date in Chicago — 98, in 1954.
Since 2007, the average temperature for June 18 has been 84.
In additon to the high heat, very windy conditions will develop Monday gusting anywhere between 30 and 40 miles per hour by the afternoon. Winds should diminish by Monday evening.
The heat is expected to stick around through Wednesday.
The next chance of thunderstorms is forecast for Wednesday night and into early Thursday.
