Steger bans outdoor watering during tower restoration

Updated: July 28, 2012 6:12AM

A ban on all outdoor watering in the village of Steger will go into effect July 9 so a water tower can be restored, according to a news release issued by the village.

The water tower at Hecht “Firemen’s” Park is to be sandblasted, repaired and repainted, a project that is expected to take eight weeks, the release said. The project is to begin June 25.

To maintain adequate water service to homes and for emergency response, Steger is asking that all residents refrain from outdoor watering from July 9 through Sept. 1. The ban includes watering of flowers and lawns, use of sprinklers and at-home car washing.

Regular use of water in the home is unaffected, the release said.
