A 9-year-old Chicago boy, visiting his grandmother on Thursday in Lansing, drowned when he and two other young family members went swimming in a neighbor’s pool.
Christian Reese and two relatives, ages 10 and 11, were at his grandmother’s house in the 2500 block of 183rd Street in Lansing when they climbed a neighbor’s fence to go swimming, a release from Lansing police said.
At the time they climbed the fence, the neighbor, who did not know they were in the yard, was in the shower, police said. The neighbor then heard pounding on the door and the other two children were yelling and screaming hysterically that Christian was under water. The homeowner then dove into the pool and pulled the boy out. Christian’s grandmother heard the screaming and called 911.
According to police, Christian reportedly was under water for several minutes. When paramedics arrived, he was unresponsive and not breathing. Paramedics began CPR. Christian was taken to Munster Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:16 p.m., according to police and the Lake County, Ind., Coroner’s office.
