The villages of Mokena and New Lenox have lifted a three-day complete ban on outdoor watering and will return to restricted watering hours July 10. Lawn sprinkling will be allowed only in the mornings from 7 to 11 a.m. on odd or even dates, based on home addresses.
Sprinkling during the evening hours remains prohibited.
A disruption in the southwest suburban regional upstream water supply late last week caused reserves to fall to critically low levels by midday Saturday. The sprinkling ban was needed to restore reserves to safe levels necessary to respond to potential emergencies such as fires and water main breaks, officials said.
Village officials are still asking residents to conserve water whenever possible, as heat and drought conditions are expected to continue over the next seven to 10 days.
Orland Park will monitor supply and demand in the coming days, according to a village news release, but for now continues to limit outdoor water use to evening hours, from 7 to 11 p.m., according to the odd/even address system.
