Police: Orland Park couple’s deaths were murder/suicide

An Orland Park woman who police say was killed by her husband Tuesday in a murder-suicide had filed for an order of protection against him in May, according to media reports Wednesday.
Twice during that month, police were called to the couple’s Orland Park home to quell verbal arguments, police said, but no arrests were made.
Karen Lolis, 48, and Angelo Lolis, 55, had separated and were going through a divorce proceeding, police said. But early Tuesday morning, Angelo Lolis confronted Karen in the garage of the Orland Park home as she was leaving for work, police said.
The couple were found dead hours later after police were asked to conduct a well-being check, a request prompted by Angelo Lolis having left a suicide note at his parents’ home in Hickory Hills, where he had been staying, police said.
Karen Lolis’ death was caused by an assault and neck injury, and her death was ruled a homicide, police said Wednesday. Angelo Lolis died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, and his death was ruled a suicide, police said.
Orland Park police had been called to the couple’s home in the 17100 block of Highwood Drive to quell arguments on May 3 and May 8, police said.
Police believe Angelo Lolis confronted his wife in the garage between 3 and 4 a.m. Tuesday as she was leaving for her job as a Transportation Security Administration screener at Midway airport. Police believe he killed her and then used a handgun he took from his father’s home and shot himself in the chest. Both were found dead in the garage, and the handgun was recovered at the scene, police said.
The couple have three daughters — ages 19, 17 and 16 — who were visiting relatives at the time of the incident, police said.
