A 16-year-old boy and a man were charged in the fatal shooting of a man outside a sports bar in Harvey early Saturday, according to a city spokeswoman.
Matthew Smith, 16, was charged as an adult with first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, according to a statement from Harvey spokeswoman Sandra Alvarado. Arsenio Willliams, 24, was also charged in connection to the shooting, Alvarado said. He faces charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding in addition to aiding and concealing a homicide, Alvarado said.
Smith is accused of shooting Kevin Guice, 29, in the head after an argument erupted at the Press Box Club, 15430 Dixie Highway, about 12:45 a.m., authorities said.
Guice, of the 14000 block of South Tracy in Riverdale, was pronounced dead at Ingalls Memorial Hospital at 1:40 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
An autopsy Saturday found that Guice suffered a gunshot to the head and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Alvarado said another person was injured and taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, where they were treated and release. Alvarado could not immediately provide details of the person’s injuries.
Samora Hicks, who identified herself as Guice’s sister, said Guice was defending himself from an attacker who yelled that he would shoot everyone after an argument between multiple groups in the club. Hicks said at least six shots were fired before her brother was hit.
“He was a peacemaker,” Hicks said.
It is not clear where the others injured in the shooting were taken.
