2 charged in fatal shooting outside Harvey sports bar

Updated: September 15, 2012 6:17AM

A 16-year-old boy was charged with first-degree murder, and a 24-year-old man faces lesser felony charges in the fatal shooting of a man early Saturday outside a sports bar in Harvey, a Harvey city spokeswoman said.

Matthew Smith, 16, was charged as an adult with first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, spokeswoman Sandra Alvarado said.

She said Arsenio Williams, 24, was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding in addition to aiding and concealing a homicide.

Smith is accused of shooting Kevin Guice, 29, in the head after an argument erupted at the Press Box Club, 15430 Dixie Highway, about 12:45 a.m., authorities said.

Guice, of the 14000 block of Tracy Avenue in Riverdale, was pronounced dead at Ingalls Memorial Hospital at 1:40 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy Saturday found that Guice suffered a gunshot wound in the head, and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

A woman who identified herself as Guice’s sister said Guice was defending himself from an attacker who yelled that he would shoot everyone after an argument between multiple groups in the club.
