Community High School District 218 has a tentative contract agreement with the union representing teachers, just days after the district declared both sides were at an impasse.
The district, in a notice on its website, said that a vote on the contract could come during a special board meeting scheduled for Aug. 20 at Shepard High School in Palos Heights.
The district also includes Eisenhower High School in Blue Island, Richards High School in Oak Lawn and the Summit and Delta learning centers in Robbins.
The school year is scheduled to begin with a freshmen-only day Aug. 20, and the district said that schools will open as scheduled. Sophomores, juniors and seniors will report Aug. 21.
At the end of last month, the district’s board said it had been unable to come to terms on a new contract, with salaries and health care costs being the primary sticking points. The school board said at the time it had offered average raises of 2.5 percent each year over the four years of the agreement, while the union sought raises totaling 15.4 percent over the contract’s duration.
