FRANKFORT — The Frankfort Square Park District was notified that the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation approved $46,800 in grant funding for the installation of the Island Prairie Nature Center Solar Photovoltaic Roof Panel System.
The system will offset the energy usage of the center building by providing 100 percent of its electrical power.
Residents will have access to the monitoring system via a link to the park district’s website once the project is complete, interconnection with the district’s utility provider is established and the system begins operation.
In addition, thanks to the passage of a Will County ordinance governing the issuance of wind turbine permits, the district will install a Honeywell wind turbine at the Island Prairie site.
This improvement is being provided at no cost for equipment or installation, as Renewable Energy Alternatives of Arlington Heights believes the visibility of the park district will aid in demonstrating to the public the benefits of wind turbines for residential use.
