Palos fire district to show off kitchen makeover

Updated: September 20, 2012 6:18AM

The kitchen at the Palos Fire Protection District’s Station One has been drastically upgraded, moving from advanced life support to state-of-the-art.

The district won the grand prize, a kitchen makeover, in the Rescue Remodel Contest sponsored by IKEA and The Family Handyman magazine. The prize included appliances, cabinets and a much-needed new seating area.

Now, the public that voted the district to culinary glory gets to see the results. The station, at 8815 W. 123rd St. in Palos Park, will host a Kitchen Open House from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 15, in conjunction with the village’s Autumn In The Park Festival.

Photos of the remodeled kitchen are in the September issue of The Family Handyman, already available at newsstands. The Rescueremodel.com website also is updated with photos.

The kitchen also will be featured on “Ron Hazelton’s HouseCalls” at 5:30 a.m. Aug. 25 on WLS-TV (Channel 7).
