Seven students from Jack Hille Middle School in Oak Forest were injured, but none was believed to be seriously hurt, when a school bus and a van collided Wednesday afternoon at 151st Street and Laramie Avenue, Forest Ridge School District 142 Supt. Margaret Longo said.
Four students were treated at the scene and released to their parents, and three were taken to hospitals for precautionary reasons, Longo said.
Longo said the bus had just turned onto Laramie Avenue when the driver saw a work van coming at it in the wrong lane. The driver stopped the bus, but the bus was struck head-on by the van, Longo said.
It was the first day of school for the sixth- through eighth-grade students.
Information on possible citations or charges was not immediately available. A message left with Oak Forest police was not immediately returned.
