A man whose body was retrieved Tuesday morning from Maple Lake was positively identified Wednesday as Alpha Sabbithi, an Oak Lawn man whom police had been searching for since Sunday.
Sabbithi’s cause of death was drowning, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, and the manner was undetermined, meaning authorities aren’t sure whether it was an accident, a homicide or suicide.
Sabbithi, who would have turned 28 Monday, had suffered from depression, according to a missing persons alert issued by Oak Lawn earlier this week. His car, wallet and cell phone were found early Sunday in a Cook County forest preserve near Maple Lake, 95th Street and Wolf Road in Palos Township.
When his body was found, there were no signs of foul play, according to a spokeswoman for the Cook County Sheriff’s office.
