A Hickory Hills man was cited after his vehicle collided with a school bus Wednesday afternoon at 151st Street and Laramie Avenue in Oak Forest, police said Thursday.
The crash sent three students to the hospital on the first day of school. No one was seriously hurt.
Franklin Buttron, 27, of the 8600 block of South 82nd Avenue, was cited for driving too fast for conditions and improper lane use, Oak Forest Police Chief Greg Anderson said.
The bus driver turned the corner onto Laramie Avenue and stopped when he saw a van approaching in his lane, but the van hit the bus head-on, Forest Ridge School District 142 Supt. Margaret Longo said.
Seven Jack Hille Middle School students complained of injuries after hitting their heads on the seats, Longo said. All but one of those students were back in class Thursday, Longo said.
Four students were treated at the scene and released to their parents, and three were treated and released at local hospitals, she said.
