Citing work and family commitments, Mark Gambla has resigned as president of the North Palos School District 117 board.
Gambla resigned last week after serving more than 11 years on the board, according to a news release from the district.
He was elected in 2001 and served the last three years as board president. His term was set to expire in April.
During his tenure, voters approved a referendum that provided needed funding for the district; the district won the Lincoln Award for Performance Excellence; district schools have won numerous awards for academic excellence; and Glen Oaks Elementary School this month won a National Blue Ribbon Schools Award.
