New Lenox hires design firm for new police station

Updated: August 31, 2012 8:11PM

The New Lenox Village Board has hired FGM Architects Inc. to design the new village police station.

The board on Monday voted to pay the firm $750,000 for the work.

The 30,000-square-foot building is expected to have a base cost of $9.5 million, Village Administrator Kurt Carroll said.

FGM Architects designed the Village Hall. Since that project, the group acquired SRBL, a firm that has designed a number of police stations, Carroll said.

The village is talking with Leopardo Construction of Hoffman Estates about possibly building the station, but the board would have to approve hiring any firm to do the construction.

“We looked at a number of (construction) firms,” he said. “Some of them in and around the area.”
