CARBONDALE — A student at Southern Illinois University’s campus in Carbondale is in the hospital after he fell from a fourth-floor residence hall window.
In a message Friday morning, Chancellor Rita Cheng identified the student as freshman Tyler Gravitt, of Matteson.
WSIU Radio reported that campus police responded to University Hall about 2 a.m. Friday.
Police said Gravitt was taken to a local hospital, but the chancellor’s office said he later was transported to a St. Louis hospital, where he’s in intensive care.
An SIU spokesman said Saturday he did not know the student’s medical condition or what hospital he was being treated at. He said campus police are “pretty sure” Gravitt’s fall was accidental.
