A sport utility vehicle fatally struck a 66-year-old woman attempting to cross the street Sunday night near her home.
Vivian Sandifer, of the 14400 block of South Halsted Street in Riverdale, was struck by a vehicle in front of her home and pronounced dead at 10:50 p.m. Sunday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Sandifer was trying to cross Halsted Street when a southbound vehicle struck her about 7:55 p.m., throwing her into the northbound lanes, Riverdale police said.
A Monday autopsy confirmed she died from multiple injuries from an SUV striking a pedestrian, and the death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner’s office.
The Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team interviewed the 35-year-old driver and found no indication of alcohol or drugs, police said.
The motorist had not been cited as of Tuesday afternoon.
