The 1,000 or so marijuana plants — some as tall as Christmas trees — stretched across land the size of two football fields, but it took police in a helicopter to spot the massive grow operation on the far South Side.
There were no reports of any arrests Wednesday.
The marijuana was found on a stretch of land along the 10600 block of South Stony Island Avenue, not far from the Harborside International Golf Center and the Bishop Ford Freeway.
Police also discovered what appeared to be a lookout post for growers to keep an eye on their crop, police said.
Police were trying to figure out how to destroy such a large marijuana crop.
