Shots fired, police still searching for handgun

Updated: November 5, 2012 11:42AM

Burbank police were searching for a handgun that may have been discarded after a gang-related shooting incident Tuesday afternoon near 81st Place and Mayfield Avenue, according to police.

No one was injured, but a few houses were hit by gunfire, police Capt. Joe Ford said.

He said officers responded about 2:20 p.m. to a call of shots fired but those involved had left the area. Police used metal detectors and dogs in an attempt to find the weapon.

Liberty Junior High School temporarily was placed on lockdown while police investigated the shooting.
