A Bridgeview woman faces a criminal charge after attacking her son’s girlfriend at the Mokena police station on Oct. 10, punching her multiple times in the face, police said.
Tammy Mackowiak, 43, 8800 Harlem Ave., Apt. 1022, was charged with battery after the incident in which she attacked the 20-year-old Mokena woman for supposedly causing her son to leave a drug intervention earlier that day.
Mackowiak told police that the woman arrived at a Joliet drug treatment center, where Mackowiak’s son was recently admitted for a heroin addiction, for a scheduled intervention but refused to be searched by staff.
Mackowiak said the girlfriend then left the center with Mackowiak’s son, and Mackowiak followed them to a drug store at U.S. 30 and Wolf Road, where she tried to confront them.
Her son fled on foot, and the girlfriend drove away, followed by Mackowiak, and stopped at the police station to tell police she was being followed, according to police.
After attacking the woman, Mackowiak told police she was angry over the woman interfering in her son’s treatment and was not thinking clearly.
