Alsip police believe the same two masked and armed men are responsible for a pair of armed robberies over the past two months at Jewel-Osco, 12001 S. Pulaski Road.
The first took place Aug. 26. The second happened the night of Oct. 14. Each took place just before the store closed at midnight.
“It was the same thing each time, right around closing time. We believe it’s the same offenders,” Alsip Police Lt. Scott Zablotny said Friday.
He declined to reveal how much money was stolen in either armed robbery.
“They were not able to get away with as much this time,” Zablotny said. “(The store) has changed their practices a little after meeting with our crime prevention officer. We suggested some safety measures in terms of lighting and visibility from the parking lot. And we’ve stepped up our patrols, marked and unmarked cars, in the area.”
Nobody was injured in either robbery, he said.
Having the same suspects rob the same store “is uncommon,” he said.
Alsip has been in contact with other local police departments to determine whether they have experienced similar armed robberies, but has not heard of any, he said.
“Who knows? They could have been in Indiana doing this for the past seven weeks,” Zablotny said.
Jewel-Osco spokeswoman Karen May had no comment on the armed robberies.
