A fire started in a classroom used for storage early Friday evening at Arbor Middle School, 17303 Central Ave., Oak Forest.
Oak Forest Deputy Fire Chief Charles Sopko said the fire started on the ground level and was contained by the school’s sprinkler system. It was put out in fewer than 10 minutes.
There was water damage to the affected classroom and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Sopko said. When firefighters arrived, there was heavy black smoke in the hallway. It was “easily ventilated,” Sopko said.
The fire was “very minor,” and school should proceed as scheduled on Monday, he said.
