A national contest in which a Palos Park fire station won a $25,000 kitchen makeover earlier this year is seeking nominations for next year’s winner.
The Family Handyman Rescue Remodel Contest, sponsored by IKEA, seeks to give back to worthy groups such as firehouses, boys and girls clubs and soup kitchens, according to a news release announcing the contest. Nominations can be submitted by visiting www.RescueRemodel.com by Dec. 15.
Entries must explain in 500 words or less how the renovation will benefit both the community and the local organization, as well as describe what makes the group deserving of the makeover, according to the contest rules.
Nominees must be active community organizations. For-profit organizations are not eligible.
A panel from The Family Handyman will pick five finalists, after which votes will be taken online from Feb. 1 to March 30. A winner is to be selected April 12.
Winners will receive a fully customized kitchen, from new cabinets and appliances to cookware and food storage, the release said.
