LOCKPORT — The longtime second-in-command in Lockport’s police force will run the department for at least six months.
Lt. Dave Draksler was named acting chief following the retirement of William Kendziora last month.
Draksler, who has been with the department for 25 years, is a veteran investigator who has been a supervising administrator for the past two years. He has been named the Exchange Club’s Police Officer of the Year three times in his career.
Kendziora left after a 31-year-career with “no plans other than enjoying retirement.” He became chief in 2007.
A permanent chief will not be selected until after municipal elections are held in April, but Draksler said he will pursue the position.
“I think Dave would be an excellent chief and would certainly support (him getting) the position,” Kendziora said.
