Cook County sheriff’s police said Thursday that bond has been denied for an Orland Township man who allegedly tried to strangle his 78-year-old father.
Mark Williamson, 46, of the 9200 block of 143rd Street, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery. Williamson appeared in court Thursday morning for a bond hearing, police said.
Sheriff’s police said they were called on Tuesday to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where Williamson’s father was seeking treatment.
Police said they learned that the senior Williamson was sitting at his desk in his home Sunday when his son came up from behind and began to choke him. A struggle ensued, with both men ending up on the floor, and the son allegedly slamming his father’s face against the ceramic floor, causing serious injuries, police said.
They said the father didn’t call police until two days after the attack. Sheriff’s police said they went to the Orland Township house and found the son in the basement, “huffing” a can of compressed air.
Williamson’s next court date is Nov. 29 at the county courthouse in Bridgeview.
