The Tinley Park Village Board on Tuesday night gave initial approval to an ordinance designed to clarify when motorists can park for free in village lots.
Parking will be free on weekends, on holidays observed by the village, and after 10:30 a.m. on other days in village parking lots, Trustee Dave Seaman said.
The rules would apply to all village-operated lots, including those at the Metra train stations at Oak Park and 80th avenues, he said.
Parking is $1.50 at those lots, but payment requirements generally have not been enforced for the times that officially will be designated as free.
