Tinley Park firefighters on Wednesday saved two pit bulls that had inhaled smoke during a fire, but a garage and the car inside were heavily damaged, Fire Chief Ken Dunn said.
Firefighters were called at 1 p.m. about a fire in a two-car garage at the corner of Lenore and Ethyl lanes, Dunn said. The fire was out in 10 or 15 minutes, Dunn said, and oxygen masks were used to resuscitate the dogs.
“We’ve had these snout-sized masks for about 10 years. They were very thankful they got taken care of,” Dunn said of the dogs.
No one was hurt, but there was some minor damage to a house near the garage, Dunn said.
“The homeowners were never in danger,” he said.
The cause of the fire had not been determined as of early Wednesday afternoon, Dunn said.
