Worth trucker dies when pinned by truck

Updated: February 11, 2013 7:29AM

A Worth resident died Monday night after he was pinned inside a semi truck he was driving and that struck a concrete post in Bensenville, police said.

Martin Sum, 57, of the 11400 block of Normandy Avenue, was stuck between the driver’s side door and the cab after the truck hit the post at a refueling area as he tried to exit the cab, Police Chief Frank Kosman said.

Co-workers found Sum and freed him before paramedics arrived, Kosman said. Sum was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, where he was pronounced dead at 8:19 p.m., authorities said.

An autopsy Tuesday determined that Sum died of multiple injuries, and the death was ruled an accident, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
