Will County seeks candidates for schools superintendent

Applications will be accepted until Feb. 4 for candidates interested in the position of Will County regional superintendent of schools.
Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood) recently resigned from the post after being elected to the state Senate. By law, her replacement also must be a Democrat.
The appointed superintendent will serve until the 2014 election.
Other requirements include:
Master’s degree
20 semester hours of credit in professional education at the graduate level
A valid all-grade supervisory certificate or a valid state limited supervisory certificate
Four years teaching experience
Full-time teaching for at least two of the four previous years or serving as a county superintendent or regional superintendent in Illinois
Those interested in applying should send a letter of interest and their credentials to the county executive’s office, c/o ROE Search, 302 N. Chicago St., Joliet, IL 60435.
An advisory group will interview candidates and make a recommendation to Executive Larry Walsh. The county board must approve Walsh’s recommendation.
The regional office of education serves as an intermediary between the State Board of Education and local school districts. It administers programs that include truancy prevention, GED testing, life safety inspections, bus driver training, and continuing education for teachers and administrators.
