An elderly Oak Forest man has been charged with fondling a teenage girl earlier this month and was arrested Monday for allegedly masturbating in front of a 17-year-old girl — both incidents allegedly on trains on the Chicago Transit Authority’s Orange Line.

“Lies,” William Papagianis muttered as he stood Tuesday before Cook County Circuit Court Judge Donald Panarese Jr., who ordered him held on $1 million bail on a charge of aggravated sexual abuse in connection with the Jan. 8 incident.

Prosecutors said Papagianis, 76, masturbated Monday in front of the girl as he sat across from her on the el train, making “hissing” noises at the girl to get her attention.

The girl pushed the emergency button on the train and got off as Papagianis did, and a witness saw the girl crying and flagged down police, who apprehended Papagianis, authorities said.

That arrest led to him being charged with the earlier offense because two girls identified Papagianis as the man who fondled one of them Jan. 8 on an Orange Line train, Assistant State’s Attorney Joell Zahr told the judge.

Zahr said a 15-year-old old girl was standing on the train with her sister when she felt someone touching her over her school uniform pants.

She then felt fingers rubbing her butt and turned to see Papagianis standing behind her, Zahr said.

The girl pushed Papagianis and told him to stop touching her, and he sat back down. The sisters got off at the next stop and immediately told police, but the train left before officers could question Papagianis, prosecutors said.

Zahr said police issued an alert, and Papagianis was seen on a security camera.

Papagianis also has another pending felony case for allegedly harassing a witness in Maywood, she said.

He also was arrested in 2007 for grabbing a woman’s knee and masturbating in front of her at Midway Airport and was arrested in 2008 for a similar incident, Zahr said.
