Tinley Park ponders incentive plan for Rizza auto dealership

Tinley Park officials are considering a tax break for Rizza Cadillac and Rizza Buick GMC, which hopes building a new facade would attract enough car-buying customers to justify hiring 10 employees, adding $450,000 to the payroll.

The plan calls for giving the dealership, 8425 W. 159th St., a 33 percent share of new sales tax revenue to help fund the improvements, village officials said. It’s similar to plans that were hammered out with Apple Chevrolet and Orland Toyota Scion in 2011.

Increased sales are expected to result in at least $843,000 in sales tax revenue for the village over 10 years, village economic development director Ivan Baker told the village board’s finance and economic development committee last week.

The improvements are not possible without the incentive, Trustee Dave Seaman said.

The committee approved the plan, which will go to the full board for approval.

The village also:

Approved a license agreement with Cavellini’s to continue restaurant service at the Oak Park Avenue Metra station. The monthly rent will be $700, with the vendor sharing 2 percent of gross sales for the first $400,000 per year and 2.5 percent for sales beyond $400,000.

Agreed to hire a temporary accountant for $42 per hour for three days a week over three months to help in the finance department.

Agreed to pay no more than $12,500 for a new police dog to replace Thor, who is being retired in June.

Approved a tax break for a new Golden Corral restaurant at 6803 W. 159th St. Trustee Greg Hannon voted against the plan because it would “set a precedent for other national chains.”

Hired Tom Kopanski as water superintendent to replace Tim Morris, who resigned. Kopanski’s salary will be $83,160.
