South Suburban College to expand health care programs

The state is giving South Suburban College $41.6 million toward a $52.5 million addition so the South Holland school can expand its Allied Health educational programs.
More than 17,000 students attend South Suburban College, and 25 percent of them choose careers in nursing and other health care jobs, according to a news release from the school.
In addition to nursing, South Suburban College offers training in echocardiography, ultrasound, medical records technology, phlebotomy, occupational therapy, radiologic technology and MRI technology, and soon will offer a speech language pathology program.
The project will expand classrooms, laboratories and other related medical facilities, the release said. It is being funded through Gov. Pat Quinn’s Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program. Quinn announced the project at the school Thursday.
