A Downers Grove woman was killed Friday afternoon when a sport utility vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and hit her car in a three-vehicle accident on 167th Street near Oak Forest, Cook County sheriff’s police said.
Two other people were hospitalized, one with serious injuries, and the driver of the SUV was being questioned Friday evening, sheriff’s police spokeswoman Sophia Ansari said.
Anasis Knox, 25, was pronounced dead at 2:35 p.m. at South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, authorities said. She said a passenger in Knox’s car was treated and released.
Police said the accident occurred about 1:40 p.m. at 167th Street and Lockwood Avenue in unincorporated Cook County. A black SUV eastbound on 167th Street struck an eastbound white SUV for an unknown reason and then veered into oncoming traffic, striking an Oldsmobile driven by Knox, Ansari said.
The driver of the white SUV was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with serious injuries, Ansari said, and the driver of the black SUV was not injured.
The accident left debris scattered across the road and prompted the closure of 167th Street from Central to Cicero avenues for several hours.
