Oak Lawn man charged in Palos Park ruse burglary

An Oak Lawn man has been charged with a ruse burglary for allegedly stealing jewelry from the home of an elderly Palos Township woman in January, according to Cook County sheriff’s police.
Sonny Miller, 43, who was wearing a hard hat, knocked on the 87-year-old woman’s door Jan. 30 in the 1200 block of Newport Drive and yelled to her that there was an electrical emergency in the area and he had
to check her outlets, police
said.
They said Miller told the woman to turn the appliances and lights on and off for about 15 minutes, and then the doorbell rang and he told the homeowner that was his partner and he had to leave.
Police said the woman later discovered that her dresser drawers had been opened and costume jewelry was missing.
The sheriff’s police investigation led to Miller as a suspect, and the Illinois State Police Ruse Burglary Task Force arrested him March 1 during a traffic stop in Oak Lawn, according to police.
They said Miller was charged with residential burglary and ordered held on $50,000 bail.
